Hello there my lovely readers! Remember that time, not so long ago, when I was teaching myself to crochet? Well, now this has happened...
My newly completed Granny Square crochet blanket!!!! |
Ahhh!!! Can you even believe it?!! My first ever completed crochet project! A giant blanket of crochet goodness! I'm still a little bit overwhelmed that I was able to create this beast, and yes it has taken a while but I'm so in love with it that the wait was definitely worth it :)
Pretty uniform squares all crocheted together, be still my beating heart :) |
A lot of credit really has to go to the amazing Dana of Crafty Minx and her wonderful online crochet course (completely free and so easy to follow) which taught me everything I know about this addictive art. Seriously, if you are thinking of learning to crochet you couldn't ask for a better course or teacher, Dana is so clear and brilliant, I learnt so much and everything just flowed. The only problem is I'm now a hopeless crochet addict to go with my already being a hopeless sewing and knitting addict. Ah well :)
Look how nicely it fits on the end of my bed :) |
I found the pattern for this blanket of joy here, and it's a lovely free online pattern (originally for a pillow but not hard at all to change into a blanket), so you can give it a go if you feel like it! It's actually a fairly simple pattern, as a beginner I didn't find it all that hard, and of course, the more squares you make the better you get at them :) Although you may not want to make as huge a blanket as I did for your first ever project! Once I got started I just couldn't stop!
It's just so snuggly I want to jump on it! |
So there you have it, my first crochet blanket! And I've already started my next one...! I am totally in love with crochet, so expect lots my projects to be shared in the near future :)
Now, if you'll excuse me I'm off to snuggly under this a so cosy blanket!
Bye for now,
Katie xxx

Oh my giddy aunt...I can't believe you made this beauty with your own fair hands, when not so long ago you were just starting to crochet! Well done indeed, I love it! I didn't take to crochet when I gave it a go, but I will definitely be checking out that free tutorial you mentioned, as it is my ambition to one day make a blanket just like yours!
Yay, this looks so great! Good job!
OMG that is awesome! I love doing crochet, but rarely have time for it. That really is awesome job for your first crochet :D congrats! NOw there is no end to what you can do with crochet. Imagine vintage style bolero or blouse in crochet ;)
The first crochet project I ever did was a granny square blanket that I made for my new nephew! It's funny that we would pick such huge undertakings for our first foray but it worked out!
oh my giddy AUNT!!! This is wonderful - and EXACTLY the sort of thing I would like to make! I am going to check out that on line course - I have been watching on line tutorials for ages - but just cannot seem to get a round actually going properly. Thanks for the link - and well done you!!
Smashing blanket! I love the colours you've chosen.
Oh this is gorgeous! How have you attached the granny squares together? I'm making my first blanket too and I've been sewing mine together using a blanket stitch, but yours looks so neat! I absolutely agree that crocheting is amazing - it's addictive, super-cute and most important - portable!
Yay! I can comment again :)
Well done on your first crochet project :) I'm glad you've caught the bug, it really is such an addictive craft, I love it!
How many squares did you have to make though? It's amazing, I love the pattern you used, and the colours too, what's the next one like?! Don't forget to try out http://www.freevintagecrochet.com/, they have some brilliant free vintage patterns, and most are super easy to boot.
Don't forget to check out my crochet themed give away over on my blog!

So pretty and cosy! Such a super awesome first crochet project! Way to go!
Wowzers!! It's fantastic!! I dream of making a granny square blanket, but the thoughts of sewing in all those ends makes me want to cry!
Oh, such a beautiful granny square afghan! I much prefer your white framing to the black framing that was preferred in the US in the 1970s. I even have old crafts magazines that show women wearing maxi skirts made of granny squares -- not a good look, I'm afraid. The vests -- and the sashes, of tiny squares made of cotton crochet thead -- were pretty. Do I recall that you were brilliant enough to crochet your squares together, instead of sewing them up?
Wow Katie, this blanket is amazing - can't believe you've made it in such a short space of time!
it's just lovely-so bright and cheerful!
Hi, I really love your blanket and would love to try myself, I was just wondering what wool you used to create it? Ive been jsing 100 % aus wool and its a bit too hard... Thanks
Bellissima coperta! Ti sta bene anche come giacchina. Love
